The Ice Bowl on Holt Blvd
A Place Where Dreams Can Come True, at 1225 W Holt Blvd in Ontario.
The Ontario Ice Skating Center is the second oldest ice facility in Southern California. Built by the Vanderberg family in 1957, the original “ICE BOWL” set the precedent for a brand new and innovative dimension of entertainment. Milo Vanderberg quickly recognized that a whole new industry was being launched, and he went to work on it.
The man who built the machines
Here is how the rink describes what Milo Vanderberg did, in their own words:
“Milo invented equipment, which would revolutionize the ice skating industry forever. He introduced ice re-surfacing machine, a skate sharpener, electric broom, as well as other innovations.”
A friend takes over in 1983
In 1983 the rink was purchased by a longtime friend and skating professional, Donald Bartelson. The rink calls itself a landmark of this community, and says residents of the Inland Empire have enjoyed ice sports here seven days a week, year round.
At the base of Mt. Baldy
The rink sits at the base of the Inland Empire’s most spectacular peak, Mt. Baldy, and offers a wide range of ice sports that are fun and affordable for the whole family: public sessions, lessons, hockey, broomball and birthday parties.
A Chance Of Heart
That is the name of the rink’s mission. Their desire is to expose more people of all ages to a wide variety of skating activities, to get in shape and have fun doing it. And their warning to new skaters: “The skating fever is extremely contagious and can be extremely beneficial to your health!”
